Some time ago, we posted a piece about the importance of arts education and a recent study measuring its effects. In response to that same study, The Huffington Post‘s Sarah Virginia White wrote an article advising parents on how to optimize museum tours for their children. In addition to a handful of practical parenting tips – i.e., keep the visits to a reasonable length for the child’s attention span – she offered up several useful strategies for making art accessible to children. Her recommendations include activities that engage children in making art as well as viewing it, scavenger hunts, and finding ways to put the children in charge of how they explore the museum.
