Many parents of younger elementary school students wonder whether their children’s homework is really necessary. Should my child really be devoting this much time to spelling worksheets? Can’t we let kids be kids until they’re just a little bit older?
In a recent Huffington Post op-ed, entrepreneur and mother Kate Solomon gives some great reasons why she believes homework is valuable for her children. It keeps them engaged with the learning process and keeps parents involved, she writes, but most importantly, it teaches them how to stick to a schedule and fulfill their obligations. These are certainly important lessons for young children.
Solomon’s op-ed also notes three different approaches that parents or tutors can take to helping young children with their homework.
