EmailCorpus Christi Catholic School (CCCS) was founded in 1959 with support from the local Catholic community and the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. The school serves pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students. In 1990, the school received the prestigious Blue Ribbon School Award from the US Department of Education. This award identifies schools that have extremely high performing students or that have made significant improvements in closing the achievement gap.

Religious Affiliation
The Corpus Christi Parish, affiliated with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, identified Catholic education as one of its primary ministries. The school’s religious education program focuses on using age-appropriate liturgies and integrating Catholic moral values throughout the whole day. The curriculum is provided by the Archdiocese and then expanded by the school. In addition to attending Mass weekly, students can serve as altar servers, lectors, ushers, greeters, and music ministers. Although non-Catholic students still attend and participate in Mass, they are not required to participate in sacraments.
Location and Facilities
CCCS is located just outside the 610 Loop in southwest Houston. Many students come from nearby neighborhoods, such as Willowbend, Meyerland, Bellaire, West University, Southside Place, and the Medical Center, while others travel longer distances from places such as Sugar Land and Pearland. The school is located near The Emery/Weiner School, several other churches, and Houston Express’ soccer fields. CCCS has its own soccer field.
Admissions
Corpus Christi Catholic School’s admissions process generally includes 1) a campus tour (optional), 2) a written application, 3) a copy of the student’s birth certificate, baptismal certificate (if Catholic), current report card & standardized test results, current immunization records, 4) completed forms on special needs information, authorization to release information and transcript requests, school recommendations, custody information, and finally 5) a classroom visit and assessment. After all steps have been completed, the Admission Committee meets to review applications and notifies families with their decisions. Students who are not initially accepted may be placed in a waiting pool.
Priority is given to siblings of currently enrolled students and to families who have registered in Corpus Christi Parish. Tours and open houses are offered throughout the year. CCCS uses its own reason-based test to assess students.
Academic Tracks and Curriculum
Elementary school students have daily lessons in religion, language arts, math, science, and social studies. They attend classes in Spanish twice per week; computer, library, art, and music once per week, and PE three to four times per week.
Middle school students have daily lessons in English, mathematics, religion, reading, science, and social studies. Spanish is taught twice per week, and PE is scheduled four times per week.
In addition to these daily courses, middle school students can choose one elective per semester, which is held twice a week. Options include: Band, Speech/Drama, Art/Conservation Site, Yearbook, and Academic Prep Bowl. Note that Yearbook and Band require a full-year commitment. Band students learn to read music, play a musical instrument, and participate in school performances. The Art/Conservation Site class, in addition to the art offering, provides students the opportunity to learn about the environment, ecology, conservation, recycling, gardening and propagation. In Prep Bowl, students prepare for competitions by honing their math, science, language and history skills. Through Yearbook, students can improve their publishing, journalism, and computer skills. A high school exam review is offered after school to help 8th graders prepare for the upcoming high school entrance exams (ISEE and HSPT).
Special Needs
Corpus Christi Catholic School offers an Enrichment Program, through which a Montessori-trained teacher works to address the needs of students with learning differences and to provide additional challenges for academically advanced students. Sessions are individually tailored based on information from assessment information and input from parents and teachers. There is an Annual Assessment Fee of $75 and Session Fees of $30 per 30 minutes.
The admissions department states that they “will carefully consider students for enrollment who have special needs, based on the extent of modifications needed and the academic, social and emotional make-up of the class.”
Foreign Languages
Spanish is offered twice a week for all early childhood, elementary school, and middle school students. In early childhood, students learn vocabulary through singing and memorizing rhymes and chants. By 5th grade, students are able to construct simple conversational sentences as they continue to build vocabulary. In middle school, students learn through the “Spanish is Fun” program with activities in writing, reading, pronunciation, translation, memorization, and conversation.
Arts
Classes in the arts are offered weekly for elementary school students and as an elective for middle school students. Art students study world cultures, art history, and various techniques through the mediums of clay, paint, sculpture, and drawing. Music and Performing Arts students present three performances throughout the school year.
Music taught by a music teacher is held and twice per week in the early childhood program and in the elementary curriculum with performance opportunities on Grandparents’ Day, Christmas, and through the Spring Program. The school has a Band Director who teaches the band program available to 4th to 8th graders through which students can learn to read music, play an instrument, and perform throughout the year. CCCS’s music teacher offers private and group piano lessons by appointment.
Technology
In elementary school, computer class is part of a once-weekly ancillary rotation; middle school students attend twice a week. Students are introduced to keyboarding, internet research skills, computer graphics design, desktop publishing, and web page design.
Extracurricular Activities
Qualifying students are inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. High scoring students on standardized testing are nominated to the Duke University Talent Identification Program.
Students participate in community service projects, class retreats, field trips, and school dances. CCCS offers before and after school care called Colt Camp, in which students complete their homework, snack, and do activities in a structured environment. Monthly fees for morning care are $60 per child, afternoon fees are $195 per child. Hourly rates are also available.
Athletics
Physical education, an integrated part of the curriculum, focuses on promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership, as well as encouraging life-long healthy patterns of exercise and nutrition.
Students in grades 5-8 are able to join the following varsity teams: co-ed soccer (fall), girls’ volleyball (fall), boys’ and girls’ basketball (fall), and track (spring). Students in grades 1-5 can join the either the boys’ or girls’ spring intramural basketball teams. CCCS participates in the Greater Houston Catholic Athletic Association (GHCAA).
Parent Involvement
Corpus Christi’s Parent School Organization (PSO) works to support the mission of the school, to help plan school events, and to provide a forum for parents to share knowledge about raising children. All CCCS parents, guardians, teachers and staff are members of the PSO. At the start of each school year, the PSO assists with the Back to School Orientation, Used Uniform Sale, and a school Pool Party. Examples of past events the PSO has hosted throughout the school year include Family Trivia Night, Family Bingo Night, decorating art tiles, Science Night, and International Night. Parents can become involved by volunteering to serve on the PSO board, and participate in fund raising events such as the school auction or annual fund drive.
