Students interested in enrolling in a specialized program for the 2014-2015 school year and their parents can examine the offerings at the Houston Independent School District Choice Fair this weekend.
The fair will take place this Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Northwest Mall, 9500 Hempstead Highway, near the junction of the Loop and U.S. 290 freeways. The event will have representatives from 43 district magnet programs to answer questions and provide information to prospective students and parents.
“We received thousands of applications during our initial magnet and Vanguard application process,” District School Services Officer Lupita Hinojosa said in a district press release “But there are many schools still actively seeking interested students, and we want families to take full advantage of the wonderful programs available to them.”
Programs available include several Vanguard (gifted and talented) programs, career-academy schools, dual language programs, among others. Openings are available at the elementary, middle and high school level, as well as some preschool programs. Information about charter schools and other options will be available as well.
HISD has more information about schools recruiting at the event here. For general information about the types of programs available in HISD’s choice program see here.
