MLK Day at Children’s Museum of Houston Combines Education, Fun

childrens_MuseumToday, HISD schools and most Houston private schools are closed in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday. Many parents also have the day off from work, making it a perfect opportunity to spend quality time with children.

The Children’s Museum of Houston’s MLK Day Celebration is a perfect opportunity to have fun with your kids while teaching them about the life and lessons of Dr. King. The event, which is open from 10am to 6pm and features $5 general admission, includes choral performances, a peace march, and of course, a reading of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.  Other activities, which will be available throughout the day, include contributing to the Dream Wall and making peace symbols, science modules with a focus on African-American contributors to science, and more opportunities to read and engage with “I Have a Dream.” You can learn more here.

If you’re interested in the Children’s Museum’s MLK offerings but can’t make it to today’s festivities, their ongoing Have a Dream event features many of the same activities and runs through Wednesday. You can learn more here.
